The challenge

Confidential data was being emailed and shared with no consistent classification, making it impossible to enforce protection or demonstrate control to auditors.

What I delivered

• Designed a simple, business-friendly label taxonomy (Public, Internal, Confidential, Highly Confidential) with sub-labels
• Configured label policies, default labelling and mandatory justification for downgrades
• Enabled encryption and content marking for confidential labels
• Rolled out auto-labelling for sensitive information types such as financial and personal data
• Applied container labels to Teams, Microsoft 365 Groups and SharePoint sites

Outcome

A consistent way to classify and protect data across Microsoft 365, ready to drive DLP, retention and Copilot controls.
